Weather & Emergency Closings

Closings and delays because of inclement weather or emergency will be announced on, on the school’s Facebook page, and via e-mail from the Board President, Administrative Director, Teacher and/or Class Trustee. Parents are also asked to sign up to receive emergency weather alerts via text notification (text @dnpccns to the number 81010). In certain circumstances, such as snow accumulating throughout the school day or forecasted to worsen, the staff at DNPCCNS may contact parents via phone to pick-up their children earlier than the scheduled end of class.  With regard to the decision to close or delay school due to inclement weather, DNPCCNS strongly considers, and in most cases, follows, the judgment of the West Windsor-Plainsboro (WW-P) School District.  However, the Director of Education, Administrative Director, and Executive Board President reserve the right to determine, after a joint discussion, whether a delay (call for late arrival), or closure (call for early dismissal or class cancellation) is necessary to ensure the safety of families, teachers, and staff specifically at DNPCCNS, even if that decision is different from the decision of the WW-P School District.  Delays and Cancellations will proceed as follows:

  • When DNPCCNS classes are cancelled due to inclement weather/emergency, both the morning and afternoon sessions will be cancelled.
  • When DNPCCNS is operating on a delayed opening schedule, morning session will be held from 10:00 to 12:00, Lunch Bunch 12:00 to 1:00 and afternoon session will be held 1:00 to 3:00. Morning Enrichments will begin at 10:00 and end at 12:30.  Afternoon Enrichments will begin at 12:00 and end at 2:30.
  • When DNPCCNS is operating on an early dismissal schedule, the afternoon session will be cancelled.
  • Missed sessions in days number 1, 2, and 3 will not be made up for our 2 year old and 3 year old classes. Missed sessions 1, 2, 3, and 4 will not be made up for our 4 year old classes and Kindergarten Extension. Missed sessions in days number 1 and 2 will not be made up for Enrichment.

Please remember: parents have the right to pick up their child(ren) at any point during the school day, because of a weather-related incident (such as in advance of snowy or icy conditions), an emergency, or for any other reason. Please call the school before doing so.  Ensuring the safety of all members of our preschool community is the primary concern of DNPCCNS’ staff and Executive Board, as is providing prompt, thorough communication to school families about weather-related and other emergency incidents.  Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter.
